Assam won the gold for the Best State Pavilion Award from among the states and union territories for showcasing its best cultural and industrial glory at the 37th India International Trade Fair (IITF) that concluded at Pragati Maidan on Monday. The state succeeded eight-times winner Kerala, which bagged the silver in the same category.

Lakshadweep was awarded the bronze while Punjab and Maharashtra were given consolation prizes under the Best Pavilion slot.

Among the international winners, Turkey was on top by bagging gold for the best international pavilion. Silver medal in this category went to Afghanistan while Thailand got bronze. Hong Kong was given a consolation medal.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation stood out amongst the ministries and other government departments, bagging a gold medal. The silver and bronze medals were shared by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Power and Ministry of Earth Sciences and Ministry of Steel. Post Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited and Central Board of Taxes(CBTD) won gold as the best central government enterprise.

The award ceremony was presided over by Chairman-Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), LC Goyal. The winners were handed over the awards by Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, CR Chaudhary.

Around 55,000 people visited the Trade Fair on the concluding day of this fortnight-long event. Over the course of 14 days, more than 5.5 lakh tickets were sold for one of the most awaited events in the Capital.

The event, however, was a dampener this year as the ITPO put a cap on the number of visitors per day to 60,000 due to the ongoing development work at Pragati Maidan.
