A helper at the IGI Airport has been arrested by the Cyber Crime Cell of the Delhi Police on Tuesday for creating fake social media accounts of women and sending morphed obscene images from that account to others, the police said.

A complaint was received by one Aishwarya (name changed) against somebody who had created a fake account by her name on a popular social media site.

He alleged that the account also contained her morphed image and the person was sending obscene messages and pictures to others from her handle.

A case was registered. During the investigation, it was found that the account had 353 friends, all women. Aishwarya was also sent friend requests through other social media accounts.

When she blocked those accounts, she was again sent sa request from another id. Once, she accepted a request and she saw that it was a fake account which had obscene content.

She was repeatedly sent vulgar morphed images of her by the user of those accounts.

The Cyber Crime Cell identified the creator of the fake accounts to be one Vijay. Vijay is a school dropout and worked as a helper at the airport.

The investigation revealed that he started creating social media accounts in the names of girls just for fun and started sending friend requests to ramdom women.

Many girls accepted his request in the false belief that those accounts belonged to a girl, said Anyesh Roy, DCP (Cyber Crime).

Once the friend request was accepted, the accused was able to see the images uploaded on the profile of the targeted girls.

Thereafter, through some other fake social media accounts, he used to send vulgar messages to the girls and harass them.

He also threatened them if they did not respond to his vulgar chats. During the interrogation, it was revealed that the social media accounts were created and managed by him and that he was in touch with more than 200 women.

Further investigation in the case is underway.
