Out on morning walk, IAF corporal mowed down by speeding vehicle in Greater Noida

A 28-year-old corporal of the Indian Air Force (IAF) was killed after an unidentified speeding vehicle mowed him down at Sabota road in Greater Noida on Thursday morning. The police are yet to trace the vehicle and its driver.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Yogesh Sharma, who was out for his morning walk in Sabota when the incident occurred.

"The accident took place around 6 am in Jewar Kasba when Sharma had gone for a morning walk when a speeding vehicle mowed him down. A passerby called the police after which a team was rushed to the spot," said Rajpal Singh Tomar, station house officer.

The police rushed Sharma to Kailash Hospital in Jewar where he was declared brought dead. Officials of the hospital said that he was brought to the hospital around 7 am and the body was later handed over to his family.

The police have been unable to trace the vehicle that mowed Sharma down and are currently looking for any eye-witnesses to find a clue. "A case has been registered under sections 279 ( rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code against unknown persons. We will soon arrest the criminal," Tomar said.

Sharma, a native of Sabota village at Jewar in Greater Noida, was about to join the Air Force division in Jammu in the next few days. He had come to his native place during his vacations.Sharma is survived by his wife and a two-year-old son.
