Haryana Pollution Control Board (HPCB) now seems to have swung into action to go against the industries contributing to the rise of pollution in Gurgaon.

A few months back, the board had directed the industries to submit a monthly report on the level of emissions. However, as per sources, none of the industries have submitted any report till now. The officials believe that the level of emissions of these industries is beyond the prescribed limit.

Speaking with iamin, Balraj Ahlawa - Region Pollution Officer, Gurgaon, said, “The factories that haven’t submitted the reports will be taken to task. Their names will be sent to headquarters in Panchkula after which heavy penalties will be imposed on them.”

The factories on HPCB's radar include: six pesticide factories, two leather and seven dye factories, 17 cement factories and 17 sugar mills. Apart from these, reports on 12 waste management factories, one urea supply factory and one oil refinery have also been sent to headquarters. “Heavy penalties are likely to be imposed on the defaulters and for future, these factories have to control the emission of noxious chemicals,” added Ahlawat.

Further, there are 23 other factories that haven’t installed the necessary equipment such as web cameras, magnetic and ultrasonic flow meter that keep a check on the emission of harmful chemicals in air and water through sewage.
