A hockey player allegedly shot himself inside his car in South Delhi's Sarojini Nagar area on Tuesday. The body of Rizwan Khan (22), student of Jamia Milia Islamia was found on the driving seat with a bullet injury on the right temple. No suicide note was recovered from the car, however the family has alleged foul play.

Rizwan's father Sharif Khan said that he had left home post noon on Monday in the Swift car. The family members called him repeatedly but his mobile phone had been switched off. The family then called him on another mobile number which was answered by a female.

"We asked her to give her address so that we could take back his phone and find out where he is. The phone was then passed onto a male person who stated that a bag had been dropped by Rizwan at the house. On Tuesday when we visited the house we got the bag which contained around Rs 2 lakh rupees," said Khan.

He further added that his brother who was downstairs informed him that the family's car was parked nearby in a parking lot and Rizwan's body was inside it. The father then informed the police who reached the location. Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South revealed that the police received a call around 10:20 am.

"The body was found inside the Swift car. A country made pistol was also found in the right hand of the deceased and a bullet wound on the right temple. Rizwan had left a bag at the residence of a female friend which contained cash. The boy was supposed to purchase a bike with that money. Inquest proceedings are on," added Baaniya.

Investigating officials revealed that the girl whose house the bag was dropped at is also a hockey player and both knew each other.

However, when the incident occurred she was not in the city. "The boy had reached the girl's house in the afternoon and left the bag with his other mobile phone inside it. Later the father of the girl spoke to the boy's family. His car was parked near the girl's house," added the officer. It seems the boy killed himself during the wee hours and no one heard the gun shot or saw him.

However the post-mortem will reveal the exact cause of death.

Rizwan's coach revealed that he was a dedicated player and had represented Delhi twice.
