A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering a man following a quarrel after his car brushed past the victim's motorcycle while parking outside a store in east Delhi's Mayur Vihar, from Dasna toll plaza on Thursday night. Police said that the accused was continuously changing locations and changed his appearance to evade arrest while he has over 30 criminal cases against him across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh for armed robbery and has been previously booked in gangster act in UP.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Sidhant Verma who had changed his hairstyle and trimmed his beard to evade arrest.

"We had received a call from Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital informing about a patient being brought to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds at around 12:30 am on December 10. A case was registered and an investigation was taken up," said Pankaj Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (east).

It came to light that the deceased Yogesh along with two of his friends had come to 24x7 departmental store on a motorcycle. While they were sitting, an i20 car with two occupants one of them Verma, parked the car next to their bike which triggered an argument between the group. The argument turned into a scuffle as Yogesh picked up an iron rod from the nearby construction site and smashed the side window of the car belonging to the accused persons and in return the accused fired at him and fled.

"Following the case, over 30 personnel were immediately launched and within 48 hours accused was identified along with the i20 car and other details. With the help of the information, a trap was laid near Dasna in Ghaziabad and Verma was nabbed with the car. We found the pistol used in crime from the car, said Singh.

During interrogation, Verma revealed that he planned to meet his old accomplice Pramod on December 9 night and they decided to go to 24x7 for a midnight snack.

"There they had an argument as the side mirror of their car just brushed the bike and the deceased party started abusing him. They had a minor argument following which Verma went inside by calming the situation by saying "Beta jitni teri umar hai, usse zyada mere pe mukadmein hai" (I have more cases than your age on my name) and went inside," said Singh.

Later inside the store also the two parties had an argument and after coming out the argument escalated during which Yogesh picked up an iron rod from the construction site and smashed the side window of the i20 belonging to Verma. Upon which Verma took out his pistol and fired multiple rounds at Yogesh.

"The two fled from the spot and Verma went to his residence in Ghaziabad. The next morning he got to know about Yogesh's death from the newspapers and then he decided to flee National Capital Region for sometime till the matter settled. Verma had changed his looks and kept had moved to Western Up to evade arrest," said Singh.

HOW THE INCIDENT UNFOLDED

  • Victim Yogesh along with his friend had visited a day & night shop to pick up some food.  
     
  • When they were parking their bike, Sidhant Verma’s car brushed past it. Verma and victim Yogesh had initial round argument.  
     
  • They both went inside the shop and had second round of argument. 
     
  • When they came out Yogesh took a rod and smashed window of Verma’s car
     
  • Verma got a gun from his car and shot victim Yogesh
