Heartless Noida takes stray dog menace into own hands

"Dogs are man's best friend" says the world, but only if they are pure breeds and well-trained say Noida residents. With an increase in cases of dog-biting incidents, the residents have also become heartless and have started attacking the four-legged creatures.

Four residents and security guards deployed at Supertech Capetwon in Sector 74 have been booked for allegedly killing a dog to death.

The one-year-old female dog was allegedly beaten to death suspected of biting a child. The residents vented out their anger on the dog which was not even present in the society when the child was bitten.

According to the police, they are helpless as when some residents register a complaint about the nuisance, some dog lovers cross-register another FIR.

According to the members of People for Animals (PFA), attacking an animal is not a sign of bravery. "Attacking them does not solve this issue. If they have a problem with the strays, they can call up special dispensary or hospitals which work for the welfare of the dogs. The residents have started taking the matter into their own hands. I agree that number of dog-biting incidents have increased, but a dog doesn't attack anyone unless it is attacked," said Kaveri Bhardwaj, a member of PFA.

Dr Nischal Chaudhary, a vet at the shelter in Sector 94, said the sterilisation drive had begun in October. "The Noida Authority asked us to sterilise at least 25 stray dogs every day, and so far, we have operated up on 380 dogs. The dogs are kept in the hospital for about seven days for post-surgery care. After that, they are released in their home territory," he added.
