In the first of its kind initiative, Delhi High Court judges on Thursday conducted a surprise inspection of district courts in the national Capital to only discover that several judicial officers had come late and not begun work on time.
The judges, led by Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal, inspected the Patiala House court to take stock of the punctuality of judges, working atmosphere and cleanliness.
According to sources, the Acting Chief Justice, who wanted a firsthand account, found that out of 27 judicial officers, only eight judicial officers were presiding over the courts at 10 am. Several other officers were found missing at the reporting time, following which a list was prepared, the sources added.
Registrar General of the Delhi High court Dinesh Kumar Sharma said that the surprise inspection was aimed at checking various aspects of the functioning of the lower judiciary including punctuality and discipline. Sharma said that appropriate action would be taken against erring officers.
While Justice Ravindra Bhat inspected Tis Hazari court complex, Justice Sanjeev Khanna visited Rohini court complex. Justice GS Sistani, Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Murlidhar visited the Karkardooma court, Dwarka and Saket court complex respectively.
