Be careful while driving on the roads of Gurugram, you could be hauled up by ‘Yamraj’ if found drunk. On the occasion of Dussehra festival, the Gurugram Police, in a first of its kind initiative, will use characters such as Ram, Lakshman, Ravan from Ram-Leela in order to teach traffic lessons to the commuters of Gurugram. Road safety has become a social evil in today’s time killing one person every four minutes. In order to overcome this evil, the initiative has been started.

During the day, Lakshman sensitized people on the importance of a stop line and the zebra crossing line asking commuters to consider it as the Lakshman Rekha which should not be crossed at all. While Ravan, on the other hand, asked commuters to wear helmets and made them aware of other motor vehicle violations.

“The highlight of the initiative is the ‘Yamraj’ who will also be present at various pickets along with the police and impart driving lessons to the commuters starting late Friday night,” said a senior police officer.

The essence of this festival is the victory of good over evil and we want people to remove the bad fate of ‘not following traffic rules’ this Dussehra. At various Ram-Leela performances in Gurugram, we will ask the people to pledge to follow the traffic rules,” said Ravinder Kumar, PRO, Gurugram police.

The Gurugram Police along with the Road Safety Organisation (RSO), on the occasion of Dussehra festival, started a campaign to spread the message and raise awareness among the community regarding Road Safety rules.
