Hunger and dehydration reportedly led the 16-year-old, who was absconding after killing his mother and sister in Greater Noida, into the police trap on Saturday. Senior police officers said that after losing all his money, the juvenile did not eat or drink for three days, while going from Simla to Varanasi. In fact, after being arrested, the first thing the teenager asked for was food.

According to the police, after killing his mother Anjali Agarwal, 42, and sister Manikarnika, 11, in a high-rise apartment in Greater Noida, the boy travelled to five states – Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh, and Union Territory Chandigarh, between December 4 and 8, before finally being arrested from Varanasi.

"He was spotted sitting quietly on the ghats. Local boatmen suspected that he was going to jump into the water and commit suicide, so they made a PCR call. When the Varanasi police picked him up, the first thing he asked for was food," a senior police officer said.

Police said the boy revealed that he hadn't eaten anything for three days. "We served him food. Later, a call to his relatives revealed he was a suspect in a double murder case," an officer said.

Meanwhile, the teen's classmates described him as lonely and isolated. He did not have any friends and would often misbehave in class. He would try to provoke or hurt people, would get scolded by teachers, and cry. Recently, he had become immune to the scolding as well.

"They recalled how one day, when he was in Class VIII, the boy stabbed a pen into a wooden desk with brutal force and looked very satisfied after that," the officer added.

Police said the boy was not doing well academically and in view of his poor performance, his teachers made him study Computers instead of maths.

On Tuesday night, the mother-daughter duo was found murdered in their Greater Noida flat in the 11th avenue of Gaur City-2.

The incident came to light when the boy's father, who was out of town for work, asked his relatives to check on his family as no one was answering his calls.

On Saturday, the boy confessed to killing his mother and sister after he was taken into custody by the Gautam Budh Nagar police. He was produced before the juvenile court and was later sent to the correction home on Saturday.
