A 53-year-old Norway national has allegedly accused her neighbours of harassing her over feeding stray dogs in Sector Eta-1 of Surajpur. Being irked over this, she threatened to end her life on Saturday, following which, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) intervened and called for an inquiry.

According to the police, the victim identified as Maria Frederick had visited India for medical treatment around 17 years ago and later decided to stay here. She alleged that six of her neighbours harassed her for feeding stray dogs.

"She told us that she loves stray dogs and she feeds them with food and milk almost everyday. Because of which some of her neighbours have been harassing her and that has been happening for quite a while now. So on Saturday the woman approached the SSP office and a team was formed to look into the matter," said a senior police officer.

The woman also alleged that because of this harassment, she had to send her 22-year-old daughter to Norway some time ago.

The police said that after receiving the complaint, a team visited the woman's house. Manoj Kumar Pant, Station House Officier at Surajpur police station, said that the police officials held a meeting with both parties and the issue was resolved.

Later, the woman thanked the Noida Police in a video shared by them on Twitter. "I am happy that the police officers visited me to inquire about the matter. I see a very positive response from the police. I am counting on them and I hope my life will be better now," said the woman.

The police said that the woman had come to India for treatment and later decided to stay back and got Indian citizenship. She lived sometime in the NSG Society before moving to another rented accommodation in Sector Eta-1.
