Greater Noida minor rape: District Magistrate forms panel

The Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate on Sunday formed a committee to look into the alleged rape case of a three-year-old girl by the life guard of the swimming pool in a private school of Greater Noida. The committee will present their report within fifteen days. The lifeguard is identified as Chandi Das.

There are five members in the committee formed by BN Singh, the District Magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar, in which Additional District Magistrate, Chief Medical Officer, District Education Officer, ARTO, District fire officer are included.

"The committee will check the security of the students, CCTV cameras installed by the school management, and if the cameras are installed under the guidelines of CBSE and state government rule or not. If anything will be find wrong district administration will take action against the school," said Singh.

A report will be submitted to the DM within 15 days. While the committee will also recheck the security arrangements of other schools in the district also.

However, the school, has shockingly backed the accused and claimed that there was no evidence against him.

The school's principal said while she has not seen CCTV footage from the day herself, a committee of teachers and the police have.

"We found there was no conclusive evidence that the lifeguard has performed any act which he is being accused of," she said.

Following the incident, many parents fear to send their children to school as they believe that school is one place where they feel safe to send their children as they will be always under the watchful eyes of the teachers. But the comtinous sexual assault incidents have raised some serious questions on the safety of children at schools.

" Everyday we hear about such shameful incidents, how can we be sure that our kids are in safe hands and nothing will happen to them," said Vikram Tyagi, a parent whose child studies in class 2 of Pathways School.

On Thursday, a three and a half-year-old girl was allegedly raped by life guard inside the school premises of a private school in Greater Noida. The incident came to light after the girl complained to her parents about pain in the abdomen area. Her parents took her to a private hospital where doctors confirmed sexual assault. Their medical report stated that her hymen was torn.

However police registered an FIR on Friday evening upon the complaint being received and arrested the accused.

Life guard Das has been arrested and an FIR under IPC section 376 (Rape) of the Indian penal code and 7/8 Protection of Child from Sexual offences Act (POCSO).
