According to the police, the deceased identified as Randheer Chauhan, a daily wage earner, tried to set himself on fire outside her residence.
Unable to deal with a break up with his girlfriend, a 30-year-old man tried to self immolate outside his estranged lover's house in NTPC society in the Kasna area of Greater Noida on Tuesday night. The police said that the man died during treatment at Safdarjung Hospital on Wednesday. A case of abetment of suicide has been registered against the girl and investigation is on.
According to the police, the deceased identified as Randheer Chauhan, a daily wage earner, tried to set himself on fire outside her residence.
"The incident took place on Tuesday night around 9 pm when Chauhan who reached the NTPC society and poured kerosene on himself and tried to set himself on fire outside her residence. Following the drama, a neighbour called the police control room and a team was rushed to the spot," said Shalendra Pratap Singh, station house officer, Kasna police station.
With the help of the locals, the fire was doused but Chauhan was burnt. The police team rushed him to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to the Safdarjung Hospital.
Officials at Safdurjung said that when Chauhan was brought to the hospital at around 12:30 am, he had sustained 80 per cent burn injuries all over his body. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Wednesday morning.
During the initial investigation, it was revealed that Chauhan and the girl were living together in her flat. However, recently they had parted ways after which Chauhan visited the girl's house often and they had frequent fights.
Following the incident, a case was registered against the woman under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.
"We are verifying all the angles of the case and once we reach any concrete evidence we shall take strict action," said a police officer.
