Greater Noida: Man held for sexually assaulting minor girl

A 12-year-old was allegedly sexually harassed by a man who had come to repair the lift at a high rise in Kasna area of Greater Noida on Friday night. The accused was arrested from the society premises on Saturday morning, police said.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Vijay, an employee of Japan Jindal, who had come to the society to repair the lift and who harassed the victim.

"The complainant has alleged that the minor girl was in the lift with the accused who allegedly stopped the lift on the 13th floor of the building and sexually assaulted her. She raised several alarms. Later, the victim somehow managed to escape the accused's grip and ran towards her house," said Azad Singh Tomar, Station house officer, Kasna police station.

The victim informed about the incident to her parents and the parents approached the police. The incident took place at 9.30 pm on Friday night.

Following the complaint, a team reached the society and nabbed the accused from the society premises on Saturday morning.

"The accused has been arrested under Sections 354A (Sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal code and Section 7/8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012. The accused was produced in front of the magistrate and sent to jail on Saturday morning," said Tomar.

Further investigation is underway.
