Govt cracks down on corruption in Anganwadis

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday visited an Anganwadi centre in Shakarpur as a part of the Delhi government's inspection drive to keep a check on these centres. He, along with other ministers and 800 officers, visited more than 1,600 centres on Saturday.

After the inspections, the officials will prepare a report giving the positive and negative points about the centre. The report will then be monitored by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and the final action will then be decided.

"We visited the Anganwadi centres on Saturday and realised that some of the entries are made only on paper. An overall report of the inspection will help us take the final decision," said Kejriwal after visiting the centre. He described the move as a 'huge exercise' to overhaul Anganwadi system in the city.

The move came after Sisodia made a surprise visit to one of the Anganwadi centres in east Delhi and found gross irregularities in its functioning. He personally visited some of the residential areas and verified their addresses.

In the past

During his inspection on June 4, Sisodia found fake attendance records of children were being maintained at three anganwadi centres. 
Sisodia then ordered termination of services of six officials working in these three Anganwadi centres. He also appealed to the public to come forward and report any such irregularity at other anganwadi centres to the government.
