The Delhi government has issued a direction stating that the state building projects do not require approval of the municipal corporations anymore in the city.

The government issued a circular after notifying the development citing amendments in the building by-laws.

The Public Works Department (PWD) and other agencies recently issued directives wherein they stated: "The projects to be used for public purpose are exempted from seeking sanction of building plan from local bodies as per the provision of section (3) of the Government Building Act subject to adherence to the norms of Urban Local Bodies 2016 and Master Plan of Delhi -2021."

The circular further stated that the amended rules and regulations will exempt government buildings.

However, the government bodies need to deposit the requisite charges to the local body along with the notice of commencement and after completion of the projects. Also, they are required to obtain occupancy-cum-completion certificate from local bodies.

Earlier, there used to be a delay in the carrying out of various projects meant for citizens of Delhi, as the departments required clearance of building plans from the local body, which used to take several months before giving permission.
