The Delhi government has appointed a new medical superintendent for Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial (BJRM) hospital where a female employee accused the former head for allegedly molesting and abusing her in the hospital.

Dr Pratibha Nanda from Sanjay Gandhi Memorial hospital (SGMH) will be heading the hospital replacing Dr Surinder Pal whose suspension orders will be released on Thursday.

"The orders have been approved by the L-G and the Health Minister," said a senior Delhi government official. Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain had written to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal seeking action against the accused in the matter.

According to sources, Baijal on Wednesday gave his nod to the suspension orders. On Friday, a senior medical officer filed a complaint with Delhi police accusing Dr Pal for allegedly abusing and molesting her.

The woman further stated that she had warned the medical superintendent a number of times of dire consequences and had allegedly told him not to continue with his misconduct.

However, the doctor allegedly didn't pay any heed to her warnings. The complainant then later decided to make a video of his actions. A case was registered under Sections 354, 354 A, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.

Sources in the Health Department said that Pal has earlier been accused of harassing a nursing staffer at the Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital but no evidence could be found. He then tried to sexually assault a Data Entry Operator at the Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, following which he was transferred to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital.
