Government partially successful in breaking doctor's strike

Striking Resident Doctors of Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) hospital have refused give in to the assurances given by Delhi government. Delhi Health Secretary Madhup Vyas had held a meeting with doctors on Friday to discuss the issues and give some suggestions, some, doctors from Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, Dr Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan called off the strike late evening on Friday, but the doctors from DDU continued their protest.

"We were supposed to meet the Health Minister but he did not meet us. Instead the a meeting with Health Secretary was arranged.

"We are waiting for the final minutes of the meeting and then only we will take the final stand," said Dr Sumit Paria, president, Residents Doctor Association (RDA) of DDU.

The recent attacks on the resident doctors in Delhi and other parts of the country had sparked a nationwide protest last month.

"The doctors are being attacked by the relatives of the patient. If the government is keeping its eye close, then why should we be concerned about the patients. They are giving not giving any importance to our profession," said Dr Pankaj Solanki, president, Federation of Residents Doctor Association (FORDA).
