The Delhi government has directed the administration to be vigilant against people using fake identity documents to withdraw extra money, and to ensure security at banks and post offices.

It was revealed that cash-strapped businessmen and factory owners across the the city and the nearby areas were bringing in other people to stand in bank queues to get their currency exchanged, following which Chief Secretary KK Sharma directed all the bureaucrats to keep a vigil in their respective areas.

Sharma also held a high-level meeting with the Principal Secretaries, Secretaries and Heads of the Departments to chalk out a strategy to ensure a smooth demonetization process across the city.

Meanwhile, the Delhi state Assembly passed a resolution on Tuesday, urging President Pranab Mukherjee to direct the Central government to withdraw demonetization. The Assembly also passed a resolution to institute a high-level probe, to be monitored by the Supreme Court, to look into the allegations that the drive was fraud and had been launched to benefit a particular political party through its agents in the black money market.

Moving the resolution in an emergency session of the Assembly, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of protecting his "corporate friends" and exploiting the poor in the name of demonetization.

The one-day special session of the Assembly was marred by ruckus, with the Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta being marshalled out of the House for arguing with Kejriwal. Despite warnings from Assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel, the BJP leader continued to argue while the Chief Minister was speaking regarding the resolution.

Hailing demonetization, Gupta said that because of the "noble move", doors had been closed for many political parties that were planning to fight the election using black money. "It may be BSP, SP or even AAP. Terrorism, drug trafficking and hoarding of black money have stopped suddenly. I am amazed that AAP is not supporting the move. It looks like Kejriwal is batting for the corrupt in the name of the common people," he said.

Gupta further said that people were ready to stand in queues for the country. He accused the Chief Minister of making an irresponsible statement two days ago and repeating it in the House. "The Chief Minister said that if the scheme was not withdrawn, there would be rioting. It looks like Kejriwal is promoting riots," he said.
