Ghaziabad: Woman stabbed by sons over land strife

According to the complainant Mitlesh, the victim has been identified as Jayanti Devi, who has four children named Mitlesh, Sachin, Omkar and Omdutt.

A 73-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed several times and assaulted by her children and their wives over a land dispute in the Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad. The incident took place on Saturday while a case was registered on Tuesday and investigations are underway, the police said.

According to the complainant Mitlesh, the victim has been identified as Jayanti Devi, who has four children named Mitlesh, Sachin, Omkar and Omdutt.

"Around one-and-a-half years ago, her mother Jayanti Devi was thrown out of the house by her brothers Omkar and Omdutt as the two wanted Devi to give the share of her property to them. After which she started living here," said Mitlesh, Devi's daughter.

According to the complainant, because of the property issue, there was always a tension in the house and her two brothers used to beat her up for the same.

"On Saturday, Devi had allegedly lost her cow and was searching for it in the locality. While searching, she reached the lane where Omkar and Omdutt lived. The two along with their wives approached her and started abusing her," Mitlesh said.

The four allegedly attacked Devi with knives and stabbed her on the legs. On hearing Devi's cries, the locals rushed to the spot but by then the four accused had fled the spot, the police said.

Locals then informed the family members of the victim and she was rushed to a nearby hospital, where her condition is stated to be critical.
