An argument over toll payment on Monday turned violent after commuters and toll company security clashed. The police have lodged an FIR into the matter and further investigation is on.

According to the Ghaziabad police, a video showing two groups fighting with each other at Dasna toll went viral. Though none of the sides approached police for lodging FIR, the police had lodged an FIR on its own taking suo motu cognizance in the strictest possible sections including Section 307 of IPC and 7 criminals law Act against the unknown persons.

On further explaining the details a senior police officer said that as the police received the information of clash between two groups. A police team dispatched to the spot to examine the facts. The toll company staff was questioned and on the basis of video several persons identified and later manhunt launched to nab the culprits.

"A video has come to light which is showing a fight going on between two groups of crowd at Dasna Toll, in district Ghaziabad. Seven accused (5 toll employees and 2 local people from nearby village Kichra) have been arrested within few hours after the incident. Many other accused have also been identified and will be arrested soon," Vaibhav Krishna, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Ghaziabad, said.

It is pertinent to mention that from April 1, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had marginally hiked the toll rates, from Rs 30 to Rs 35, at the Dasna toll plaza. The hike was for non-commercial vehicles, including cars, jeeps, etc, for a single journey. Light commercial vehicles pay Rs 55 while bigger vehicles such as buses pay up Rs 120 for a single journey. Further at the exit of the EPE, vehicles have to pay again for the per kilometre distance travelled on the expressway. Vehicles entering from EPE's Dasna interchange, have to pay Rs 10 for a journey to Duhai, Rs 60 up to Mawi Kalan and Rs 80 up to Jakhauli interchanges. The Dasna toll plaza, as per official estimates, is used by 15,000 vehicles a day.
