A 27-year-old Noida-based garment trader was robbed of Rs 8 lakh at gunpoint by two unidentified bike-borne men in broad daylight on Thursday in Sector 18 area. The police said that a case has been registered and they matter is being investigated.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 12:15 pm, when the victim identified as Durgesh Mishra, a resident of Mamura village of Noida, was coming out of ICICI bank after withdrawing Rs 8 lakhs.

"While he was about to get inside his car, two bike-borne miscreants came from behind and snatched the bag containing Rs 8 lakhs on gunpoint and fled the spot," said Manish Saxena, Station House Officer, sector 20 police station.

The police has registered a case under the relevant sections of loot and robbery.

"We are looking into the CCTV footage of the area to identify the criminals. We have formed teams to nab them. They will be arrested soon," said Saxena.

Meanwhile, Noida's Traders Association has blamed the police for lack of security and patrolling in the posh sector 18 market.

"Despite a police post here, there is lack of patrolling in the sector 18 market area which makes it very vulnerable to such robbery and other criminal activities. There are CCTV cameras installed at some points but we don't know if they are being even monitored. Most of the cameras don't even work. We insist the authority and administration install CCTV cameras all over the market and make sure that they work properly," said Sushil Kumar Jain, president, sector 18 trader's association.

"Apart from the cameras, there should be police check-points on all the main entry and exit points of the market so that the criminals do not flee easily after committing the crime," Jain said.
