Ganglord Kala, who escaped cops twice, held

One of the ganglords of southeast Delhi, who is also a close associate of dreaded gangster Satya Prakash alias Satte, was arrested from Batla House area during the early hours of Saturday. The gangster, Asif alias Kala, was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 and had earlier managed to escape two encounters of Delhi Police, one in December last year and the other in February this year. He was arrested with a loaded pistol.

Police said that they had received information that Kala would be meeting a friend at Batla House in Jamia Nagar area. Around 12 am, pickets were raised and all vehicles were being strictly scrutinised, when a white Swift car with registration number DL 2CAH 8175, suddenly tried to speed away seeing the picket. 

“As the team tried to apprehend the driver, who was later identified as Kala, he tried to run away, taking out his pistol and aiming it at the police team. He was however overpowered after a short chase and arrested,” said Romil Baaniya, DCP (southeast). 

Kala was an associate of Satte, and had committed a robbery in Gulabi Bagh area in 2002 with him. While Satte was arrested by the Special Cell, Kala managed to escape.

On December 1, 2016, Kala along with his associates opened fire on a police team which intercepted them when they were fleeing after a dacoity in Pul Prahladpur area. He along with his four associates managed to escape amid a heavy exchange of fire.

Kala also managed to evade police in February in Nehru Place area where he and his men had fired many rounds, out of which two hit cops wearing bullet proof jackets. Two of his men were arrested, but Kala had managed to  flee again.
