A gang of inter-state robbers, who used to offer a lift to commuters and then rob them, has been arrested by the Delhi Police from Sultanpuri. Four male members along with one female associate are also accused in a murder case registered with the Sahibabad police station.
The accused were identified as Bittu alias Anna, Bittu alias Rakesh, Arjun Singh, Sandeep and Sunita alias Maya. All the accused had formed a gang named Anna and used to rob travellers after offering them a lift. The gang used the female member and a physically disabled male member to gain the trust of the commuters.
"The gang used to offer lifts to the commuters and take them to a secluded road and rob them. They mostly operated near inter-state bus terminals and railway stations," said Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch. Bittu, along with Arjun and Sandeep, has also revealed their involvement in a murder case registered with the Uttar Pradesh police.
Bittu revealed that they had offered a lift to a passenger from Anand Vihar ISBT to Mayur Vihar but changed their route to Sahibabad. The accused along with Arjun and Sandeep then over-powered the commuter and took away his ATM card and forced him to disclose the PIN. After withdrawing the money, the accused killed the commuter and threw him out of the car," added Kumar.
The gang was arrested after the crime branch received a tip-off about Sandeep's whereabouts. A raid was conducted in the Avantika area of Rohini and was arrested. After his interrogation, the police team raided the Sultanpuri area and nabbed the three other accused along with the one female member of the gang.
A Honda Jazz car along with a scooter and a mobile phone were recovered from the accused. All recovered articles were stolen by the gang members on different occasions.
