Gang of carjackers busted, one arrested by Delhi Police

The accused have been identified as Ashok alias Doga (gang leader), Ronak, Ravinder alias Bhanja alias Chhota and Bittu Gulia, all residents of Haryana.

The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police busted an interstate gang of abductors, carjackers and robbers with the arrest of one member on Wednesday after a complaint regarding the incident was filed on May 25. The gang leader carries a reward of Rs 50,000, said police officials.

The accused have been identified as Ashok alias Doga (gang leader), Ronak, Ravinder alias Bhanja alias Chhota and Bittu Gulia, all residents of Haryana.

The incident had taken place at 11:15 pm on May 24 when the complainant was returning to his residence in a Honda Civic car. He had stopped at the District Center in Janakpuri to purchase water when three of the accused persons threw him in the back seat of his car and drove it away. The gang robbed Rs 1,65,000 cash and withdrew an additional Rs 40,000 using the victim's ATM card and later dumped him in a field near Murad Nagar. The victim managed to inform his family regarding the incident the next morning. A complaint was filed at the Murad Nagar Police Station which was transferred to the Crime Branch due to the magnitude of the case.

"Various teams were formed who investigated CCTV footages from places around where the incident took place, the ATM from where they withdrew money and collected information on the most probable route they could have taken. On the basis of field and technical inputs we were able to apprehend Gulia and learned that the gang belonged to Rohtak and operated by Ashok," said Bhisham Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch).

During interrogation, Gulia disclosed that the gang had planned to rob a car since they were going back to Haryana. The accused also confessed to the crime. Investigations revealed that the Ashok was convicted of murder when he absconded while on parole and thus carries a reward of Rs 50,000.

The police have recovered one Bajaj Discover motorcycle which was used during the commissioning of the crime from Gulia's possession. Further investigation is in progress to arrest the absconding.
