The Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Friday arrested a 30-year-old man wanted in four cases of theft from containers, who was also managing a gang of thieves in different Inland Container Depots (ICD) in Tughlakabad, Faridabad, Dadri, and Greater Noida.

The accused, identified as Manoj Kumar, a resident of Jasola, had taken a godown on lease, where hundreds of stolen cartons and packages, which were to be exported abroad, were stored. Police said Kumar was wanted in four cases of theft from containers.

Following his arrest, 416 cartons containing 1,439 ceiling fans of different companies and 52 cartons containing electric items were recovered from a godown in Surajpur Industrial Area of Greater Noida. Police said the accused and his associates stole the items that were to be exported to African countries.

"We received the information that Kumar, who was wanted in several cases of theft from containers, would come near Jasola village Metro line around 3pm on March 3. Accordingly, a Crime Branch team laid a trap and he was apprehended successfully. On interrogation, Kumar confessed his involvement in the crime,"Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Ravindra Yadav said.

Yadav said Kumar further disclosed that at present, he was working as a manager with Jamia Nagar resident Vinod Sharma, who was running a gang of thieves in connivance with container drivers in different ICDs situated in Jamia Nagar, Faridabad, Dadri, and Greater Noida. He had also taken a godown on lease in Surajpur Industrial Area in Greater Noida.

"The accused revealed that hundreds of cartons and packages were stored in the godown that were stolen from containers being exported abroad. At his instance, the godown was raided and 468 cartons containing ceiling fans, electric cutouts, and changers were recovered from the premises. They have been seized,"Yadav said.

The officer said the gang members would unload a part of goods being exported abroad and after replacing goods with sand bags, would to seal the containers again. The sealed containers were then shipped to their destinations, which took nearly 2-3 months. The theft would come to notice only after that, he added.
