Special Cell of the Delhi Police has arrested the kingpin of a gang involved in various cases of theft and robbery in the Capital. The accused used fake identities to enroll people as domestic servants in rich families. They would later rob them with the assistance of other gang members. The estimated cost of valuables robbed by them is around Rs four crores.

The accused was identified as Rahul Mukhiya alias Dahur (32), who had been duping rich families in Delhi-NCR for about seven years. He was helped by his cousin, Suresh Mukhiya (40). The duo was involved in a high profile robbery case of about Rs 2.5 crores in Gurugram and another robbery of Rs 1 crore in Rajouri Garden area of Delhi. However, it was only after their Rajouri Garden robbery that the gang came into police's radar and the commissioner of police announced a cash prize of Rs 25,000 over Mukhiya's arrest.

It was in the March of 2016, when Mukhiya was hired as a domestic help by a doctor in Rajouri Garden, and within the first three weeks of work, he had earned the doctor and his family's confidence. "One night, when the doctor was out for dinner with his family, Mukhiya along with two of his associates robbed the house and took away jewellery and cash worth Rs one crore. Since then, the Delhi Police have been constantly trying to nab him and his gang members," said Pramod Kumar Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell.

However this Wednesday, the Special Cell received a tip-off about Mukhiya's whereabouts and during a raid, he was arrested from Mahilapur Chowk.

Mukhiya revealed that his cousin Suresh has employed over 20 members of the gang, which has been duping rich families in Delhi-NCR for about 10 years now. and he was the one to provide them with fake identities and also dispose of the stolen valuables. Mukhiya was employed by Suresh after he was dealing with a financial crisis in 2011.
