Fruit Vendor dies in hit-and-run case at Dwarka district

In an another hit and run case, a fruit vendor was killed while his friend injured after being hit by an unidentified car near Ganpati Chowk in Dwarka district on Sunday night. Police said there is no eyewitness in the case, however, they have found a Mercedes car logo from the spot but could not confirm the make of the vehicle. We are scanning the nearby CCTV footages to ascertain the identity of the vehicle, police said. The injured person is said to be critical.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Sarvesh Yadav, native of Uttar Pradesh, who was returning home with the injured identified as Inder, native of Haryana, after the day's work at a weekly market in the locality.

"We got a police control room at around 11:50 pm informing us about two people injured and lying on the road in sector 9 opposite Ganpati Apartments. A team reached the spot and the two were immediately taken to the hospital in a PCR van," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse.

Police said that Yadav was declared brought dead on arrival and Inder is undergoing treatment at the hospital. While police have found logo of a Mercedes car which they suspect came off from the offending vehicle at the spot.

"We have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal code and also obtained the list of nearly 4000 cars of the same make of which the logo has been found and are checking the ownership," said Alphonse.

According to the police, they have obtained CCTV footage from two societies and they have been scanned.

"One of them doesn't cover the area where the incident has happened and the other CCTV footage is not clear because of the trees. We are not obtaining footage from the streets ahead," said the officer.

While a security guard working at one of the societies said that he heard a loud cry and ran to the spot. 

"I saw two injured persons lying on the roads with fruits were spread all over the road while some of the sellers were coming behind them. They told me that the car was at an overspeeding car ran over the man who died and then the man who ahead of him," said the watchman.

He further said that Yadav's right leg was cut off from his body and was found a few meters ahead on the road.

According to Rajeev, Inder's relative, the car didn't stop after crushing the two of them.

"Inder told me that while returning home a speeding car crushed them but he could not see the make of it. While it first hit Yadav and cutting off his leg. Then hit him badly from front. He is able to talk however his lower body is completely damaged," said Rajeev.

Yadav is survived by his parents, wife and a three-year-old daughter, while Inder was unmarried. The two used to stay together in a godown in Dwarka Sector 7 and used to get Rs 500 a day from their contractor for whom they used to sell fruits.
