The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday suspended former Ghaziabad additional district magistrate (ADM) for his suspected role in a Rs 27-crore land scam.

According to the divisional commissioner, the then ADM Gyanshyam Singh is accused of receiving Rs 20 crore enhanced compensation from the government, through arbitration proceedings presided over by two successive DMs — Vimal Kumar and Nidhi Kesarwami.

The scam pertains to the purchase of nearly 1,800 sqm of agricultural land from farmers in Ghaziabad and Hapur in 2013, after it got notified for the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and EPE project, for which they later got enhanced compensation from state government.

Earlier, Meerut divisional commissioner Prabhat Kumar had indicted Singh and two former DMs in the land scam case. In the reports, Kumar had pointed that Singh along with others had purchased land in the Kushliya village and got 10 times more compensation from the government.
