A 22 year-old-man was arrested along with four of his aides on Monday night by the Delhi Police in North-East Delhi for his involvement in multiple robberies at wedding functions. The man has been identified as Shadab alias Guddu who is a resident of Kacchi Khajoori. The police said that he was trying to gather money through the robberies for his marriage which five days later.

The other persons who were arrested are Rahul, Deepak, Ubesh and Murtaza. The police recovered two gold rings, one gold mangalsutra, Rs 10,000 in cash, one automatic pistol, two live cartridges and three motorcycles from their possession.

The arrests came after two separate incidents of robbery in Bhajanpura and Harsh Vihar came to the fore within a week. In the first incident at Bhajanpura, one of the robbers had snatched a bag full of cash and jewellery from a man who was sitting in a bus and inviting guests over phone for his son's marriage.

In the second incident, a few days later at Harsh Vihar, two robbers had similarly targeted a man who was attending the wedding procession of his brother-in-law.

"The police suspected a possible link between these two incidents on the basis of the modus operandi used by the robbers. However, due to the lack of any CCTV camera footage, it was difficult for us to trace the culprits," said DSP Atul Kumar Thakur.
