This will be the first time that the Capital will witness a mix of young, new and old party workers governing the local body. The residents of three municipal corporations — North, South and East — have new faces. DNA speaks to some of them.

Shashi Chandna
party: BJP

The 58-year-old won by 5,113 votes and defeated Aam Aadmi Party's Aruna Devi. The councillor from Mandawali got elected after dedicating 28 years to the party.

Vision: My aim is to follow in the footsteps of PM Narendra Modi. I will begin by carrying out a 'Vikas Yatra' in my area. One of the major problems of the area is poor sanitation.

On garbage: The sanitation workers have gone on strike more than twice in east Delhi area. I will request Manish Sisodia to ensure there are enough funds.

On drainage system: Poor drainage system is one of the major issues in my ward. I will keep a major portion of the funds for maintenance of these drains.

On parking: I will make it mandatory for all the residential colonies to have their own separate parking space.

On parks: Will pool in various residents associations for the upkeep of parks. As not much can be done in terms of funds, locals will have to come forward and help us.

Poorva Sankla
Party: BJP

This 22 year-old is the youngest BJP candidate to have won the election from Raghubir Nagar. She defeated Congress' Sheela by 1,681 votes and quit her IT job.

Vision: I want to work on the lines of PM Modi's schemes. For instance, the Swachh Bharat Mission, has to be implemented on the ground.

On garbage: The dhalaos in the area need to be reconstructed and cleaned. I will make sure this is done.

On drainage: The sewage system has been overburdened over the years, which is why drains choke. I will make sure there is no blame game between the MCD and the PWD.

On Parking: It is a big problem, as there is no land available in the vicinity. This will take some time, but I will come out with an alternative for the issue.

On parks: The parks need to be reconstructed with new grass and other facilities.

Kailash Sankla
Party: BJP

He defeated Congress' JP Panwar by 3,203 votes in Punjabi Bagh. Sankla has been a part of the BJP for over 30 years.

Vision: To resolve issues, I have set up a helpline number where people can register their complaints.

On Garbage: It has been a major issue in almost every ward in Delhi. I will make sure that dustbins/garbage houses are not open as they are a major source of diseases.

On Drainage: There are back lanes in the Punjabi Bagh area where a few open sewers can be seen. With the help of my team, I will resolve the issue.

On Parking: This is where I will use a huge chunk of the funds. There is some free space near the Punjabi Bagh club, I will ask them to have it converted to a proper parking area.

On parks: We are already planning to build open gyms in the parks. There will be a focus on developing the parks and to involve residents for its upkeep.

Yasmin Kidwai
Party: Congress

A documentary film-maker and entrepreneur from Congress will be serving as a councillor for Daryaganj area.

Vision: First, I want to address basic issues of the area including street lights, garbage and dumps. I also want to address the water issues even though it does not come under the purview of the MCD.

On Garbage: I want to clear the garbage as they become the breeding ground of mosquitoes. Also I want to clear the 'debris' left by the builders after construction.

On Drainage: The sewer and water lines of the area are clogged. Construction of buildings contribute to this.

On Parking: We are working on a model to construct a community centre where parking space will be available at a minimal cost of Rs 300. We have already done that in Jangpura-B.

On Parks: There are several parks in the area and I will look for creating spaces for children.

Neesha Yadav,
Party: Congress

This 29-year-old won by 2,462 votes and defeated Suman Yadav from AAP. The young councillor sought a ticket from Samaypur Badli area and won.

Vision: The basic problem here is pension and the condition of MCD schools. People do not get salaries on time and there has been no growth since last 10 years. I will work on these issues.

On Garbage: Garbage has been a problem in East corporation. We will resolve the salary part and look at installing more dustbins in the area.

On Drainage: There are open manholes and sewage. It will be looked into on priority basis before the monsoon. The sewage line is an issue in Samaypur Badli.

On Parking: Parking is not much of an issue as there are mostly slums and villages around, thus leading to less number of vehicles in the area.

On parks: Locals will be involved to look after parks and will install street lights as they avoid going to the park during the evenings.

Jitendra Kumar
Party: AAP

Kumar is one of AAP's youngest candidates at the age of 25. An engineer by profession, Kumar, will serve as the Councillor of south Delhi's Sangam Vihar ward number 83-S.

Vision: I will try to get rid of the issues that have been plaguing MCD for the last 10 years. The previous councillor has done nothing for the area.

On garbage: I will try to rope in more resources to tackle the garbage menace. Will also engage locals to ensure cleanliness.

On Drainage: Overflowing drainages continue to choke the roads which lead to break of vector-borne diseases. I will address the problem soon.

On Parking: There is no land available for a new parking lot. We will still look for unused land for parking lots.

On Parks: There is not even a single park in our locality. I will ensure to build a municipal park in the area

Shikha Rai
Party: BJP

A Supreme Court lawyer, Rai has been elected from Greater Kailash ward 86-S. She is a former judicial member of All India Film Certificate Appellate Tribunal.

Vision: I will work to make it a model ward. I believe in optimum utilisation of resources and thus I plan to make it a solar ward. Electricity will be generated through solar, and water through rain harvesting.

On Garbage: Garbage is not a major issue in our locality. I will make sure to maintain the clean image of the area.

On Parking: Parking is another major issue and I will try to tackle it shortly by making a parking lot in the area available.

On Villages: There are two villages in the ward — Jamrudpur and Shahpur Jat. I will ensure that the residents of these villages get all facilities.

On Parks: I am planning to install more open gyms in parks, maintain cleanliness and beautification of parks.

Geeta Rawat
Party: AAP

She is among the 11 candidates who made it to the list from the east corporation. A housewife who has always been interested in helping others has finally got a chance.

Vision: The main issue is to get rid of all the problems that have been plaguing the MCD for the last 10 years. My duty is to address the issues of the residents.

On garbage: There are apparently 240 sanitation workers in my area. I will ensure that these workers regularly visit the areas allotted to them.

On Drainage: Few blocks in my area are completely choked. The drains are not cleaned leading to various diseases like malaria and chikungunya.

On Parking: We will be looking at open spaces which are lying unused and turn them into parking lots.

On Parks: The condition of the parks is not good. We will be meeting with residents to understand their issues and will take action accordingly.
