Authorities assure, their demand would be looked into, matter to be discussed with the State

After hours of negotiation with the government and being assured that their demands will be looked into and they will be given an opportunity to place their grievance in front of the CM, hundreds of farmers who had gathered at DND, ended the protest. They returned home on Saturday afternoon, hopeful that the government will keep its word.
However, the farmers have stated that if assurance or matters are not looked into they would march towards Ram Leela Maidan and sit on an indefinite strike. "Our demands are that we must get enhanced compensation in lieu of their land acquired before 2013, loan waiver, subsidised electricity and fuel, pension for farmers above 60 and implementation of the MSP as per the production cost approved by the Swaminathan Commission. The contentious issue is what is the production cost that a farmer incurs and how can the minimum support price be 50 per cent more than it. Mandarins have obfuscated the production cost in such a manner that the farmer rarely makes money on MSP," said Manveer Tewatia, farmer leader.
Around 500 farmers from Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Aligarh and Meerut, had reached DND and had spent the night on the roads.
Meanwhile, the farmers claimed that they have only been given assurance from the past nine years and no real action has been taken. "We want to go to the PM residence and want his assurance. Things should be on paper. He is our PM, we have all the rights to meet him. Our demands should be listened and met otherwise we will continue to protest," said Manveer Tewatia, kisan leader. He further said they will not create any issue for the commuters.
Looking at the situation getting tensed, the Farmers tied their hands with a piece of cloth as a sign of helplessness. The protest came to an end at around 2.30pm and farmers had vacated the spot. After they got an assurance in writing from the district magistrate. They have been assured of a meeting in a week with local authorities like Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) over their grievances," said BN Singh, district Magistrate. He further assured them he would take up the matter with the state government.
