The family members of the 32-year old gangster, who was allegedly killed after a brief encounter with the Gautam Budh Nagar police in the Bisrakh area, have refused to receive his body on Tuesday.

According to the police, the deceased was identified as Sanjay, a resident of Amritpur village at Karnal in Haryana. The police said the locals and the family members distanced themselves from the slain gangster saying they had nothing to do with him because of his tainted past.

"Sanjay had died during the encounter and we contacted the family who has refused to receive the body. We will see what to do with it," said Ajay Kumar Sharma, Station House Officer of Bisrakh police station.

According to the sarpanch of Amritpur Kalan, they have unanimously decided not receive Sanjay's body and perform his final rites in the village.

" He has only brought disgrace to our village with his anti-social activities and with his death, we hope that his family gets some closure, who were troubled because of him," said Vikram, the sarpanch.

On Monday night, Sanjay was shot dead in a shootout in the Sigma 4 area of Greater Noida. He shot on his chest and succumbed to his injuries at the district hospital, while his accomplice, riding pillion on his bike, managed to escape. The police said Sanjay was associated with the notorious Mukim Kala gang.

"A few days ago, some criminals had demanded an extortion of Rs 50 lakh from BJP activist Pushkar Singh in Greater Noida. Singh immediately contacted the police and a case was registered," Sharma said.

Investigations revealed that he was wanted in around 40 cases of loot, murder, gangster act, theft, etc in his native village and NCR areas. The police have found some weapons and a mobile phone, used in making extortion calls to Singh, from his possession.

During the encounter, a constable Vinay Ujjwal received bullet injury in his hand, while another constable Sachin Giri was injured on the head. Both of them are out of danger. The police said they have found two pistols and some cartridges from the spot.
