Family helps man kill wife, dump body

A 37-year-old property dealer confessed to strangling his wife to death and disfiguring her face with a hammer before dumping her body in a gorge in Mussorie.

Lalit Jain, along with father and brother, hatched a plan to kill her as they were having financial and dowr-related disputes. Lalit, a resident of Pitampura, along with his brother, sister-in-law and father, initially played the victim card and claimed that he did not know where his wife had gone. However, during sustained interrogation and CCTV footage which showed Jain and his brother along with their friend putting her body in the car, they confessed to the crime.

Silky's parents who knew relations she was being beaten by her husband, grew suspicious after they could not get in touch with their daughter after December 3.

Police officials revealed that the couple earlier had a dowry related financial dispute which was brought to the notice of the Crime Against Women (CAW) cell and was resolved amicably.

When her family enquired about her whereabouts, Lalit maintained that she was busy. He then called the police station on December 11 and filed a missing persons complaint.

"There were lot of discrepancies in the statement of the family members. The parents of the deceased expressed suspicion on the husband and the family," said Aslam Khan, DCP, North-West.

Those arrested include the husband, his father, his brother, his sister-in-law and sister-in-law's brother.

Khan added that to destroy evidence the accused painted the house, cleaned their sofa and furniture in the house and burnt the clothes they wore during the murder.

This family sticks together especially when it comes to murder. Police said the sister-in-law drove the car, on the way to dump the body, as they were less likely to be stopped. Also, her two-year-old child was in the car with the body.
