If their alarm clocks were set to ring two hours early, the couple and two kids, who were killed after a fire broke at their home, would now be enjoying their vacation in Mussoorie. The deceased identified as Rakesh Nagpal, Tina Nagpal, Himanshu and Shreya had to leave Delhi in the early hours on Friday for the hill station.

Family members said that alarms were set for 4 am. The fire broke out at 2:50 am, when the couple with their kids, were deep asleep. Excited to leave early morning for Mussoorie, all their bags were packed.

According to the deceased's brother, he came to know about the deaths only when he arrived at the residence of his brother to wake them up. "I was also to join them on the trip. I got up accordingly and called them. None of them responded. After calling them repeatedly, i thought of checking on them personally. When I got there, I saw the house in flames and the entire locality had gathered there," said Ankur Nagpal, brother of the deceased.

"Firemen went inside but came out only with their dead bodies. Our lives are shattered. Police said they tried to escape but apparently fainted due to suffocation," he said.

Shreya, who was just 3-years-old was about to start her schooling for which the couple had been school hunting recently. The entire family was very excited about the youngest child starting school after vacations.

In a statement, Tata Power has said, "As per our preliminary investigation report, the fire could have been initiated from Distribution Board/MCB and spread out due to vehicles parked and pieces of wood in the vicinity. The fire did not initiate from the meter box and it was found intact with no bulging, decomposition or breakage, which generally happens in case of short circuit and initiation of fire from inside."
