The West district police on Thursday claimed to have solved the murder of a 16-year-old girl in Khayala whose body with throat slit was found in her house on December 31. The police arrested the accused, a 34-year-old family friend who used to visit them on a daily basis. The motive of the crime was robbery, the police said.

Taking inspiration from a crime show on television, the accused strangulated and slit the throat of the minor girl, identified as Pooja, who had opposed the robbery bid.

The accused, identified as Parvinder Singh alias Rinku alias Kaku, had purchased plastic gloves to commit the crime after he got inspired by a crime show on television, where the accused had left finger prints which led to their arrest.

On the New Year's eve, Pooja's father Munna Lal who runs a vegetable shop was at his shop when their 12-year-old son Deepak informed them that Pooja was lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit.

The district police initially interrogated the family. During investigation, the police team found Kaku roaming around the house which raised their suspicion over his activities. Initially, Kaku denied his involvement but later confessed to the crime.

Kaku had once seen Munna's wife Sukho Devi keeping a bag full of jewellery in the almirah.

In urgent need of money, Kaku reached Munna's house at about 7 pm and seeing Pooja alone in the house, he tried to steal the jewellery bag along with the cash in the almirah but Pooja opposed the move. At this stage, Kaku strangulated her with a nylon rope and slit her throat to make sure she was dead.

The police recovered the stolen jewellery and Rs 18,000 from his possession along with the knife and gloves used in the crime.
