Eye on polls, civic bodies rush to revamp parks

The municipal parks in Delhi are all set for a major makeover ahead of the civic polls. Sources in the corporations said officials concerned have already been asked to install open gyms and swings in at least one park in each locality within the next two months. 

“Officials have been ordered to procure gym equipment immediately and work towards the beautification of parks in all wards across the city. Nearly 14,000 parks fall under the jurisdiction of municipal corporations, and all of them are set for a revamp before February,” said a municipal official. 

“Lighting arrangement, proper boundaries and checks are to be maintained around electricity poles. Checking of trees has also been ordered to ensure that there is no accident in the parks,” said an official. 

South Delhi Mayor Shyam Sharma said his corporation has instructed the officials to install 400 more open gyms in the parks, and the Horticulture Department has been directed to expedite the process.
