Delhi BJP on Saturday attacked the Kejriwal government over the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Surendra Singh for allegedly assaulting an NDMC worker and demanded his resignation.

"The arrest of AAP MLA Surendra Singh Commando after a thorough inquiry for beating & abusing a Scheduled Caste Govt Employee has exposed true face of Aam Aadmi Party," Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay said in a statement.

A day after his arrrest, the Delhi Cantonment MLA was granted bail by the Metropolitan Magistrate at Patiala House Court here.

Hitting out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Upadhyay said "For AAP and its supremo Arvind Kejriwal scheduled caste welfare and women safety are just issues of electoral sentiment exploitation".

"If Kejriwal is true to the cause of scheduled caste then he should expel MLA Surendra Commando from the Assembly," Upadhyay added.

On Friday, Singh was arrested for allegedly assaulting a New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) worker, the party's third legislator to be held in the last two months.

On August 4, Surinder Singh was booked for allegedly beating and manhandling an NDMC worker in Tughlaq road area when a team of municipal officials was doing their routine check and had apprehended an e-rickshaw driver to ascertain his documents.

Singh is the third AAP MLA who has been arrested in the last two months. Former Delhi Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar was held in a fake educational degree case in June and Kondli legislator Manoj Kumar was apprehended in July.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader Vijender Gupta today claimed that Delhi government has approached him to suggest some name for Delhi's Lokayukta.

"The AAP government has contacted me to suggest some name for Lokayukta after being scolded by the High Court on the issue," Gupta said in a press statement. He also said that he has responded to the CM that he should call a meeting on such an important constitutional issue so that a "competent and effective" Lokayukta could be appointed to do "justice" to the people.
