Expecting traffic woes, cops issue advisory

The advisory lists alternative routes where traffic will be diverted, if required

With the long weekend starting and Christmas round the corner, the Capital suffered from slowed down vehicular movement on key roads on Friday. Taking into account the heavy traffic movement at particular places, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory for residents on these stretches for Saturday.

The advisory lists alternative routes where traffic will be diverted, if required. Traffic coming from Patel Chowk on Ashoka Road towards Gol Dak Khana will be diverted as well as from Outer Circle Connaught Place towards Gol Dak Khana on Baba Kharak Singh Marg.

Major intersections such as Ashram, DND to Film City, Outer Ring Road towards Lotus Temple, and road going towards Nehru Place witnessed heavy traffic from six in the evening. Traffic woes worsened for commuters as rush hour coupled with weekend revellers heading out to celebrate.

Vehicles moved at snail's pace on the Savitri Cinema Road towards Chirag Dilli, Masjid Moth in Greater Kailash as well as Kalkaji Extension. Other main roads that slowed down in the evening due to weekend rush included Mathura Road, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Dhaula Kuan to Subroto Park, Dwarka-Samalkha, and Mehrauli-Gurgram Road.

In its advisory, the traffic police has advised residents to avoid areas such as Gol Dak Khana, Ashok Road, Sansad Marg, Patel Chowk, Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Church Road on Monday due to heavy rush of devotees visiting prominent churches in the Capital.
