An ex-army man has been arrested for allegedly killing a person and injuring another in North-East Delhi on November 30. The accused Rajesh Kumar (43) was initially in the Army and later joined the Defence Security core.

"He was currently posted in the Jat Regiment at the Meerut Cantonment as a constable. He had joined the Army and during his posting in J&K, he procured an arms license from Doda District. After his license came, he purchased a double barrel half gun. In 2006, he left the Army and got recruited in Defence Security Core. The gun has been seized by the police," said AK Singla, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North-East.

The police had received a call on November 30 about a firing incident near Shiv Mandir in Welcome area of North-East. After police reached the location, which was also a spare parts shop, they were informed that three persons were injured in firing and have been taken to GTB hospital. AT the hospital, they were informed that Shah Alam and Sharik were under treatment while Bhanu Partap was declared dead on arrival. Based on Alam's statement, a case was registered. The deceased worked at the spare parts shop while the injured were customers.

During investigations, it was revealed that the shots were fired from a Datsun car having an Army logo on both the number plates and that the person driving the car had come to attend a wedding in that area. The police were then informed about a wedding which was going on near Shiv Mandir and the Barat had gone to Nangloi. The address was traced but the police did not find any car there.

Later, with the help of the CCTV footage, the car was spotted in Kabir Nagar. Kumar, who hails from Bulandshahar, had come to attend a wedding here. Kumar, unaware of the exact address of the wedding, parked his car in front of the spare parts shop where the injured and the deceased were standing. Kumar's gun was lying in the car. While he was waiting for the Barat, he decided to put the gun inside its cover."When he was putting the gun in the cover, the trigger was pressed accidentally and a shot was fired which hit the three persons standing at the shop.
