Following the complaints from parents seeking nursery seats for their wards under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS)/ Disadvantaged Group (DG) category in private schools across the national Capital, the Directorate of Education (DoE) issued a list of "do and don'ts" for these schools on Monday.

Directing schools to ensure and facilitate the admission of the selected EWS/DG in the respective class without creating any "hindrance", the DoE said that they cannot ask for Aadhaar cards of students, income certificates from parents (in addition with the copies of copy of BPL/AA Y/food security cards), fee or charges.

The DoE has also warned the schools for denying admission to the EWS/DG students on the pretext of minor spelling errors and on the ground of distance range. "The department is going to constitute teams (district-wise) to conduct inspection of the private unaided recognized schools for ensuring the admission of EWS/DG category candidates shortlisted by the department in accordance with the instructions/directions issued," the DoE said in a statement.

"Director's Nominee will also be assigned the task to verify the admission status of EWS/DG Category candidates viz-a-viz the admission under open seats and submit the report of the admission on the department module designed by the department shortly," it said.

The DoE had issued the first list of 43,000 selected candidates for 45,000 available EWS/DG entry-level seats in 17,00 private schools on March 15. This year, as many as 1,28,000 candidates had applied under the category.

"The Directorate has been receiving complaints from parents that several schools denied admissions to their wards on flimsy grounds even after their names appeared in the draw of lots. The DoE will take strict action against the schools if found doing that," a senior official said.
