Even as crime rate rises in the city, special police teams formed to look for lost buffaloes

At a time when the Capital has recorded a significant increase in crime rate, the Delhi Police in outer Delhi have formed special teams to search for four missing buffaloes. In the first two-and-a-half months of 2017, the city has recorded 52,109 crime cases, in comparison to 38,781 cases reported last year. Murders, dacoity, burglary, and thefts, all have been on a rise.

Meanwhile, the cattle theft came to light on Wednesday, when Tejvir Singh, 46, a resident of Tikri Khurd in outer Delhi lodged an FIR in this regard at the Alipur police station.

Singh, who works as a driver with the Ministry of Textiles, said: "After feeding my six buffaloes, I left my house around 10 pm. I returned at 1.30 am to find that the lock on the main entry of my house was broken and four buffaloes were missing. I called up the police immediately. We have been looking around in the area, along with the personnel from the Alipur police station, since morning."

The missing buffaloes were described as short-tailed, round-horned and blackish-brown, aged 7, 9, 8, and 10 years old. "The seven-year-old has short horns and tail. The 10-year-old has one broken horn and one spiral horn. A detailed description of the other two was also given by the complainant," police said.

"We are investigating the matter and a case of theft has been registered. CCTV footage is being scanned to identify the thief," a senior police officer said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police data for the first two-and-a-half months stated that the Capital witnessed over 13,000 more crime cases than last year. From January 1-15, 2017, as many as 52,109 crimes were reported in the Capital. Last year during the same period, only 38,781 cases were reported. Also, during the same period, the number of murders went up from 97 to 103 and dacoity incidents increased from 10 to 12.
