When Rohan Achanta wanted to play football at the tender age of three, his father Vikram did not hesitate and started his training immediately. Vikram got Rohan a brand new football kit including a jersey, shorts, socks, shin guards and football studs.

However, after seven years, Vikram realised, that he couldn’t buy the new gear fast enough, as Rohan, who aims to be the next Manuel Neuer from Bayern Munich, kept outgrowing them before wearing them out. Brand new shoes, jerseys and shorts were discarded with a heavy heart.

“Six months ago, I was trying to donate a pair of studs Rohan had outgrown, when I came across an organisation ‘Football Link’ which was thrilled to accept it. I also donated jerseys and they were well received. That’s when it struck me, that I could do this on a larger scale,” the 47-year-old entrepreneur said.

Vikram, a resident of south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area then started Studwala. “Organisations that teach football focus on the core but find it hard to aggregate stuff like the gear. Even their budgets are tight to buy new gear,” the Barca fan said.

According to Vikram, the basic kit and gear costs a minimum of Rs 1000-1500. When Vikram started Studwala in August 2016, he reconnected with the parents of Rohan’s team members. They all had something to donate.

Recently, Pandara Football Club reached out to Vikram and said they needed shin guards. Vikram, knew a person who wanted to contribute. “This person then bought eight pairs of shin guards and donated them to the FC,” Vikram said. “This proves that someone like me is needed as a mediator of sorts,” he added.

In the past six months, Vikram has managed to collect and donate more than 40 pairs of shoes and 150 pairs of shorts and jerseys. “I have just received a pair of shoes and studs of a top brand that costs more than Rs 10,000 from a guy who trains in Spain. This will make the new wearer really happy!” Vikram said.

If one wishes to donate their football gear, they can get in touch with Vikram Achanta through his Facebook page - Studwala, or on studwalaindia@gmail.com.
