Engineer thrashed for his tweet meets senior cop

An engineer, who was thrashed by a cop for tweeting about a civic issue during the previous Akhilesh Yadav-led government in Uttar Pradesh (UP), met Gautam Budh Nagar's Senior Superintendent of Police on Monday to demand action against the errant policeman.

Talking about his experience, Noida-based engineer Shivansh Srivastava told DNA: "On January 27, I was returning home in Noida Sector 41 from Noida Phase II when a biker slipped near the Barola crossing. I rushed to help him. Then I saw more motorcycles slipping at the spot. Some passerby noticed a slippery chemical on the road, which was leading to the accidents. I dialled 100 and tweeted to the UP DGP. A police van reached the spot some 15-20 minutes later. The cops, however, said no action was required as nobody was injured or had died."

"Within minutes, Sub-Inspector Vijender Bhadana reached in a private SUV and started beating me. I sustained an injury on my leg. The cops then took me to Sector 49 police station and forced me to sit with criminals on the ground," he added.

After an inquiry, the Sub Inspector of Sector 49, Bhadana, was found guilty. "He and two other sub-inspectors should have been transferred or suspended immediately but nothing happened. Now, I have met with Gautambudh Nagar SSP and he has promised action in the matter," Srivastav said.

COP TURNED GOON

On January 27 last year, Srivastava had tweeted to UP DGP regarding the poor state of a road, which was leading to accidents in Noida. Soon afterwards, a cop contacted him and thrashed him for tweeting. The cop even forced him to write an ‘apology’ letter and mention that the tweet was false.
