Senior advocate Anoop George Chaudhari, fighting for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal against defamation allegations filed by Union Minister Arun Jaitley, has quit, citing an "embarrassing" situation in the Delhi High Court.

He said that inadequate briefing resulted in an embarrassing situation before Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw on February 12. "Because of this lackadaisical and casual approach in briefing, the defendant is bound to suffer and I would not like to be a party to this," he said.

Last year, senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani had said that he will not defend Kejriwal any more, claiming the AAP chief lied when he said he did not approve of the word "crook" used against Jaitley in open court.

In September, the court slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on Kejriwal for delay in filing a reply on a second Rs 10-crore defamation suit filed by Jaitley. The second suit was filed by Jaitley against an objectionable word used by the CM's then lawyer Ram Jethmalani.

The previous case was brought by the Jaitley against the CM and five other AAP leaders in December 2015. The six had accused the BJP leader of corruption during his tenure as DDCA President.
