The tension at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus warring Left unity and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad came to blows, continued on Monday with the administration placing blanket ban on all protests inside the varsity. Violence had erupted in JNU hours after results of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) polls were announced on Sunday.

The authorities temporarily banned protests, processions and public gatherings following the violence that rocked the campus for two consecutive days- on Saturday and Sunday. Releasing a notice after JNU teachers and students announced a peace march, JNU registrar Pramod Kumar said, "It is to inform all stakeholders that due to the prevailing situation on campus, any form of procession, demonstration, rallies, etc are not allowed until further notice."

However, defying the embargo, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association (JNUTA) took out a 'peace' march in the campus. They were joined by faculty, students and other staff members. The teachers and students also carried out a night vigil against the attack and the ban imposed by the administration on protests and gatherings on Monday night.

As fallout of the violent clash, the ban has also been extended to hostels, making the premises out of bounds for anyone who is not a student of JNU. The hostel committee has also restricted the entry timings of hostels to 10PM, at the same time "strictly prohibiting" all public gatherings in and around the hostel. The dhabas inside JNU, famous among outsiders too for a late night meal or tea, have been barred for non-JNU for the time being, according to a notice released by the hostel committee. The notice read, "Looking at the situation around JNU campus, wardens have released a notice for security measures. No outsiders will be allowed to enter the hostel premises. Only JNU students with valid ID card will be allowed to enter till 10:00 pm. No other hostel students will be allowed after 10:00 pm." According to the directions, "no food coupons will be given to any outsiders. Valid ID card is compulsory to avail coupon. Chandrabhaga canteen (Shiv's dhaba) will be closed for few days."

Hours after results of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union elections declared victory to Left bloc, clashes erupted on the campus. Members from the United Left alliance and Akhil Bharatiya Janata Party both alleged that they were beaten up by the rival parties.
