Eight years after its conceptualisation, the work on the Traffic Park in Noida, Sector 108, is yet to pick up pace. The Noida Authority had planned the park to organise driving workshops, aimed at spreading awareness among commuters.

According to the Authority, the multi-crore park was to be completed by October, 2016. It has been 24 months since the work started, and the project is yet to touch even the halfway mark. Earlier, the Authority had claimed that the project, which has been pending for quite a while, was to be completed by January, 2016. Now, officials promise to complete it by July.

"The project should have been completed by now, but there was a delay in passing a tender by the Authority's Electricity Department. Elections played a major role in the delay. Hopefully, it will be completed within the next four months," said RS Gautam, Project Engineer, Traffic Cell, Noida Authority.

The blueprint of the traffic park revealed that it was designed to have a motor driving training school, an administrative block, training centres for the traffic police and a regional transport office. An auditorium with a capacity of 200 people and a parking lot were also a part of the plan.

At present, drainage and electrical work is in process and is almost 45 per cent complete, with work left on the pavement. Apart from these features, the park is also designed to have roundabouts, flyovers, bridges, subways, underpasses, foot-over bridges, bus stop, zig-zag roads, and all types of traffic signals.

The park has been created to impart motor vehicle driving skills and the traffic police can use it to organise workshops on safe driving. The commuters will be taught about traffic rules in an easy and user-friendly way.

"The park will be used by the Noida Traffic Police and the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) to conduct workshops on safe driving. We have also decided to create a counter for Noida Traffic Police, where an officer will always be on duty. We plan to have a separate section where those applying for driving licences will undergo driving tests," Gautam added.

According to an Authority official, no entry fee will be charged as the park is being created with the purpose of teaching traffic rules to commuters.
