Eight-year-old loses life in scuffle between groups in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar

The victim had a tiff over acquiring space for playing in front of the madrassa.

An eight-year-old boy succumbed to injuries sustained during a scuffle with a few children in the neighbourhood in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar on Thursday morning. The victim had a tiff over acquiring space for playing in front of the madrassa. Police have apprehended four minor in the case. While the boy from the madrassa did not have any external injury following which his body was sent for autopsy to rule out any foul play.

According to the police, they received a police control room call at around 10:05 am from the madarssa members who informed that a minor boy was rushed to the MM Hospital in Malviya Nagar after a brief quarrel broke out between two groups while the hospital has pronounced him brought dead on arrival.

"Two teams were rushed to the spot and hospital respectively. During initial probe it came to light that the minor was a student of resident of Mewat in Haryana and was studying in Dar-ul-Uloom-Faridiya Madrassa," said Vijay Kumar, Deputy commissioner of police (south).

Eyewitness told police that two different groups, one of the madrassa and the other of the locality, were playing in front of the madrassa on Thursday morning.

"While playing, the two groups had a quarrel. During which the minor sustained an injury on his head and collapsed. His friends then informed the madarssa staff and the child was rushed to a hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead," said Kumar.

Police said that they have apprehended all the four minor accused, all aged 12, allegedly involved in the fight which led to the minor's death. While they wait for the autopsy reports to ascertain the exact cause of the death as there were no external injuries on the child's body.

"During interrogation, the accused revealed that they play on the vacant land in front of the madarssa but boys from the madarssa oppose it and that was reason which led to the fight on Thursday morning," said a senior police officer.

Police said that they have informed the family member of the deceased.
