As the Jain family (name changed) got set to celebrate the birthday of their daughter little did they imagine the horror that lay ahead. The only son, and the birthday girl's younger brother, who had been out of the house for some time, was found dead in a nearby field, naked, with multiple stabs and burn injuries on his neck, face, chest and hands. Since the eight-year-old boy's body was found without clothes, police have not ruled out sexual assault.

Speaking to DNA, his mother said that her son had gone out to play with his friends. "Had I known that I was seeing him for the last time, I would have never allowed him to leave the house," she said.

The family was about to travel to Agra next week for the boy's admission to a boarding school.

Recalling what happened minutes before her son's death, the boy's mother said, it was around 12:30pm when he left home to meet his friends. "It was his elder sister's birthday. As usual he had gone out to play but it started getting late.

Initially, we thought he must have taken shelter somewhere as it was raining. But when he did not return for a long time, we informed the police," said the boy's mother, a housewife.

"It was after an hour when we got a call from a policeman reporting that a naked body of a boy aged 7-10 years has been found and we were asked to identify the body. We were first taken to the spot and then to a hospital where my child was declared brought dead.

"He had several injury marks on his chest, neck, face and hands. There were also burn marks on his body. My child has been murdered and we demand the immediate arrest of the accused. I suspect the involvement of some teenage boys with whom my son used to roam around with at times," the woman said.

The only son to his parents, the deceased is survived by parents and two elder sisters, both married.

A senior police officer said that a number of suspects from the locality have been apprehended for questioning. "They are being questioned and efforts to identify the main culprits are being made. CCTV footage from the areas close to the crime scene is also being looked at," the police said.

DCP (Southeast) Romil Baaniya said that the autopsy reports are yet to be received and therefore sexual assault as a motive behind the murder cannot be ruled out. "A case of murder was registered and the matter is being probed," he said.

Post mortem reports are awaited and no arrests have been made till now.
