A scuffle broke out between members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Students For Society (SFS) in Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, on Monday, while the BJP-led students party was staging a demonstration over the Ramjas College issue.

On Saturday, SFS had organised a protest demonstration against ABVP.

The Chandigarh Police detained eight students after the groups clashed in the Student Centre, soon after the ABVP concluded its demonstration. "We were protesting against the SFS for defaming the security forces personnel and calling them rapists in their speeches, when they attacked our members," ABVP leader Harmanjot Singh Gill said.

SFS members, however, blamed the ABVP. "After JNU and DU, the ABVP is now trying to impose their pseudo-nationalist agenda on the PU campus. We were talking to the media, when they started abusing us," SFS member Harman said.

The student organisation further alleged that the turban of an SFS member was forcefully removed during the scuffle. The members from both the student bodies were still in police custody, till the filing of the report. No case has been registered, yet.
